The Autoroute du Soleil, south of Lyon, becomes the A7 motorway.
It is one of the most important travel routes during the holiday periods.
On summer Saturdays, the motorway is extremely busy between Lyon and Avignon, from the early hours of the morning. Plan to make a stopover to avoid this period.

From Lyon, the A43 motorway heads towards the famous Maurienne Valley and serves the many winter sports resorts.
To avoid the problems of traffic jams on Saturday mornings on arrival at the ski resorts, some people leave the night before and sleep in one of the hotels at the foot of the resorts.
Chambéry is the main town on the route.
